Candle Care

1. First Burn

On the first use, remove the lid and trim the wood wick to approximately 1/4 of an inch. To light the candle, hold your match/lighter near the base of the wick on one side for approximately 10 seconds. This will melt the wax slightly and the wood wick will light. Wood wicks are a little tricky and you may have to light it more than once on the first use.

Let your candle burn for at least 2-3 hours, or long enough to fully melt the top layer of wax evenly across the entire surface, creating what is known as a full ‘melt pool’. This prevents tunneling and makes the candle last longer.

The first burn is the most important because it sets the candles ‘memory’ in the wax, which becomes the foundation for how the rest of the candle will burn. If the candle is not burned properly on the first use, it will start to ‘tunnel’ for the rest of its life, and that causes wasted wax.

2. Trim Wick

To ensure the flame is the right height for the candle, trim the wick to 1/4 of an inch before each use. You can do this with a wick trimmer or by simply pulling the black tops off with your fingers.

3. Safety

Do not burn your candle for longer than 4 hours at a time and stop burning when 1/2 inch of wax remains. This will prevent the glass from overheating and possibly cracking.

Always keep burning candle within sight, out of reach from pets and children, away from drafts & away from anything that can catch fire.

4. After Care

Finished burning your favorite candle? Here is how you can clean out the jar and some examples of fun ways to repurpose them.

-Boil water and carefully pour water into the glass.

-Set in the refrigerator for approximately 2 hours.

 - The wax will float to the surface which you can remove by pressing down on it.

 - Pour out the remaining water and remove the wick holder.

 - Clean out the jar with soap and water. Now you are ready to repurpose it!

My favorite ways to repurpose candle jars is to turn them into a vase or catch-all jar. You can use them to hold cotton balls, Q-tips, pens, paperclips or even as drinking glasses.
